Description of YFL036W: Mitochondrial RNA polymerase; single subunit enzyme similar to those of T3 and T7 bacteriophages; requires a specificity subunit encoded by MTF1 for promoter recognition; binding of Mtf1p to the Rpo41p-promoter complex stabilizes the binding and induces DNA bending[1][2]

Interactions

Two Hybrid

Two Hybrid interaction with MTF2
The mitochondrial matrix protein Mtf2p/Nam1p interacts with the amino-terminal domain of mtRNA polymerase (Rpo41p) to couple post-transcriptional events to transcription during mitochondrial gene expression. [3] [4]

Protein Details

Protein Function/Process

The amino-terminal extension of Rpo41p contains a functional domain that is dispensible for transcription initiation, but is required for mtDNA stability, suggesting that additional activities are coupled to transcription during mitochondrial gene expression and/or mtDNA replication. [5] [6]
