Description of YKR016W: Mitochondrial inner membrane protein, ortholog of mammalian mitofilin; involved in import of intermembrane space (IMS) proteins, probably by positioning Mia40p relative to the TOM complex to receive incoming proteins; also has an essential role in the maintenance of crista junctions and inner membrane architecture, as a component of the mitochondrial inner membrane organizing system (MICOS, MitOS or MINOS), a scaffold-like structure on the IMS side of the inner membrane[1][2][3][4][5]
