Description of YDR293C: Translational repressor with a role in polar growth and wall integrity; regulated by Cbk1p phosphorylation to effect bud-specific translational control and localization of specific mRNAs; interacts with TOR pathway components; contains a functional N-terminal nuclear localization sequence and nucleocytoplasmic shuttling appears to be critical to Ssd1p function[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Strain W303 has ssd1-d2 allele[7] in which the 2094th nucleotide C is substituted with G, resulting in a premature stop codon[8], whereas S288C and BY4741 strains have dominant SSD1-V[9], which encodes a full-length Ssd1 protein. --S.hiraga 16:19, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
